Afraid Of Car Registration Details? It's Not a Complicated Process

The process of registering a car may sound intimidating to some people, especially for those who are buying a car for the first time. However, this process is actually not as complex as one might think. In this article, we will discuss the steps you need to take to register a new or used car in Indonesia.

The first step in car registration is to make sure that you meet the necessary requirements. These requirements may vary depending on the type of vehicle and the area where you live. However, in general, the requirements needed are:
  1. A valid vehicle registration certificate (STNK) accompanied by proof of the latest vehicle tax.
  2. The original proof of motorized vehicle ownership (BPKB) or a statement letter is lost if the BPKB is lost.
  3. Exhaust Gas Emission Certificate (SKBK) that is still valid.
  4. Copy of KTP, NPWP, and original STNK.
After making sure that you have met the necessary requirements, the next step is to take care of the vehicle registration administration. Here are the steps you need to do:
  1. Carry out a physical check of the vehicle at an official repair shop or related institution. This process aims to ensure that the vehicle is in good condition and safe to use.
  2. Pay Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) and Title Transfer Fee (BBN) to the authorities. PKB is paid annually and depends on the type and age of the vehicle, while BBN is paid only when transferring vehicle ownership.
  3. Conduct vehicle emission tests to obtain SKBK. This process must be carried out at a place designated by the competent authority.
  4. Apply for vehicle registration at the nearest Samsat office. You must bring the necessary documents such as STNK, BPKB, SKBK, KTP, NPWP, and proof of PKB and BBN payments.
After all the above processes are completed, you will be given a new STNK and vehicle number plate. Then, you can start using your new vehicle safely and comfortably.

In some cases, the vehicle registration process can be more complicated if you buy a used vehicle or a vehicle from abroad. However, you can seek assistance from an authorized agent or representative to help you understand the registration process better.

In conclusion, while the car registration process may sound daunting to some, it is actually an easy and simple process if you follow the right steps. Make sure you meet the necessary requirements and carry out all registration processes correctly so that you can ensure that your vehicle can be used legally and safely on the road.

Don't forget, as a vehicle owner, you also have a responsibility to ensure your vehicle is in good condition and safe to use. Make sure to always maintain your vehicle regularly, such as doing regular servicing, checking tire pressure, and checking the braking system regularly. By doing this, you can avoid problems that may occur on the road and ensure the safety of you and your passengers while driving.
